About

Started in 2017, Communitea Chamber Music presents monthly classical chamber music concerts in a delightfully-retro café and gallery in Long Island City. A favorite local spot, Communitea was voted Timeout New York's Most-Loved Coffee Shop in Queens from 2016-2018!

Each program brings local musicians together to discover and perform baroque, classical, and romantic music on period instruments curated around a theme. Enjoy the music the way it was experienced when it was written; with great food, delicious desserts, local beers, wine, or a cup of tea. All concerts are free, accessible, and family friendly.

Communitea Chamber Music founder and artist director, Sarah Stone expands her love of cello and viola da gamba through curiosity in the cultural background behind the music she plays. This season, Sarah performs around the country with Seraphic Fire, Washington National Cathedral, House of Time, Repast Baroque, Trinity Baroque Orchestra, Baroque Music Montana, and New York Baroque Incorporated. She returns to Montreal’s Bourgie Concert Hall with Trinity Wall Street to perform Bach Cantatas, and bringing early music into the classroom, she will play in over 60 New York City and Connecticut public schools this year through the outreach program of The American Classical Orchestra.

Sarah thinks bringing music to unexpected places is important; she is an active board member of Bitterroot Baroque, a presenting organization in Hamilton, Montana that brings in period ensembles and musicians to perform and work with locals in early music workshops. In her home-base of Long Island City, Queens, she curates a free series, Communitea Chamber Music in her favorite local coffee shop monthly since 2017. Sarah holds a Masters in Historical Performance from the Juilliard School, a Masters from San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelors of Music from Rice University. www.sarahabigaelstone.com
